Heck, yeah!  Tigers win 5-1.  Nice work from all the pitchers tonight and Montero continues to be the stealth team MVP.

Not a fan of swinging at 3-0, but it paid off tonight for Lee.

So the Tigers go 4-2 (.667) to start the post-All Star break.  That's the winning percentage they'll need to get back into the race.

The Tigers host the Royals, who are 17 below .500, for the next 4 games.  Anything less than a 3-1 series win will be a disappointment, but it's the Tigers, so be prepared to be disappointed.

Giving Lee the green light there makes sense. Outman was next up and I’ll take my chances with Lee, or almost anyone, swinging 3-0 vs Outman hitting at all.

True, it did make sense given the circumstances.  Outman is almost an automatic out (yes, I know, he did have single earlier in the game).

I've just seen situations where hitters swing at 3-0 and pop out or something like that.  I know earlier this season McGonigle was given the green light on 3-0 and popped out.  I wonder what the stats on 3-0 counts show?

Jansen looked sharp in the 9th.  I know he loaded the bases in Game 1 but in general, the Cubs seem fooled by him in this series and there is some movement on his pitches still.

Bobby Witt, Jr. is on the IL and will miss the series with the Tigers.  The Tigers really have no excuse not to go 3-1 or sweep this series but probably some scrub backup infielder will give the Tigers problems this weekend.

31-year-old righty Randy Dobnak, whom the Tigers acquired from the Twins along with Chris Paddack at a deadline trade last year (Dobnak pitched with Toledo and was never called up), is scheduled to start for the Royals tonight.   

The Royals are having a terrible season and they've been hit hard with injuries and underperformance.  Sal Perez is now 36 and has a .621 OPS.  He might be nearing the end, although he always seems to beat up on the Tigers.

Melton, Skubal, Mize and (gulp!) Valdez are scheduled to start.  Who would have thought we'd miss Flaherty?

There has been talk that Mize might miss his start vs. the Royals this Saturday, but so far the Tigers are saying Mize will start.

The trade deadline is August 3 and the Tigers have 10 games scheduled in that span (4 at home with KC, 3 at home with Baltimore and 3 at the Athletics).  To get to .500 the Tigers need to go 8-2 in that span.

KC just swept San Francisco but the Giants are even more dysfunctional than the Royals so it's not saying much. I agree that 3-1/4-0 needs to be the outcome this weekend, as well as .500 by the trade deadline.
