> Boston Red Sox 10, Detroit Tigers 3 - final
The Red Sox scored three runs before the Tigers got a chance to bat, and added five more runs in the third inning. It was that sort of a game.
In the top of the first, after Jarren Duran and Willson Contreras grounded out, Wilyer Abreu singled and stole second base, Trevor Story was safe on a fielding error by Zach McKinstry, and Ceddanne Rafaela homered.
Matt Vierling led off the bottom of the first with a home run. Then, Jahmai Jones singled, Riley Greene walked, and Wenceel Perez singled to drive in Mr. Jones.

The Red Sox had an 8-2 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth, Matt Vierling singled, Kevin McGonigle was safe on a force out of Mr. Vierling, Mr. McGonigle went to second on a single by Kerry Carpenter, and scored on a single by Dillon Dingler.
Meanwhile, the Guardians lost to the Royals. So, every team in the A.L. Central is under .500. Moreover, the Royals are 1/2 games behind the Tigers and Guardians, and Chicago is zero games back, but has played two fewer games.
The series with the Red Sox will conclude this afternoon (i.e., Wednesday afternoon, May 6).

A.J. Hinch seemed to want to let him keep pitching no matter how badly he was doing,
partly because the Tigers are running out of starting pitchers.
But umpire Dan Iassogna made the decision, tossing Mr. Valdez from the game.
