The Tigers picked up an injured Paul Sewald at the deadline last season.  He ended pitching in only 4 games for the Tigers.  The Tigers didn't bother re-signing him, but now he's Arizona's closer and has 17 saves and opponents are only hitting .138 against him.  He signed with the D-Backs for 1-year, $1.5 million.
Sewald is 36 so he's no spring chicken, but the Tigers decided instead to sign 38-year-old Kenley Jansen instead for $9 million (with a team option for $12 million)

I'm not saying the Tigers should have re-signed Sewald (he looked kind of cooked last year and he was 35), but it's just the Tigers' luck that Sewald is having a decent season and Jansen has been bad, or at least mediocre at best.  Sigh.

Sewald will be 37 next year so Scott Harris will probably sign him.

To add insult to injury, I'm pretty sure the Tigers had to pay Sewald $1 million to buy him out at the start of the season (or in the off-season).
