> Tampa Bay Rays 7, Detroit Tigers 3 - final

Reese Olson gave up two runs in the top of the first.  Although he didn't give up another run, he also didn't have a clean inning in this game.  The bullpen wasn't helpful, either.

In the top of the first, Jonathan Aranda doubled, Junior Caminero singled, Mr. Aranda scored on a ground out Josh Lowe, and Jake Magnum singled to drive in Mr. Caminero.

It took until the fourth inning for the Tigers to actually score in this game.  In the bottom of the fourth, Gleyber Torres doubled, Wenceel Perez singled, Spencer Torkelson singled to drive in Mr Torres, Zach McKinstry doubled to drive in Mr. Perez, Matt Vierling walked to load the bases, and Mr. Torkelson scored on a grounder by Parker Meadows, on which Mr. Vierling was forced out at second.  The Tigers had a 3-2 lead.

That lead lasted until the top of the sixth.  Brant Hurter relieved Reese Olson.  He gave up a single to Jake Mangum, between getting a strikeout of Josh Lowe and a ground out from Chandler Simpson.  One on, two outs, and the decision was made to bring on Chase Lee.  Ha-Seong Kim doubled to drive in Mr. Mangum, Taylor Walls singled to drive in Mr. Kim, Danny Jansen doubled to drive in Mr. Walls, and Yandy Diaz singled to drive in Mr. Jansen.  The Rays had a 6-3 lead.

Junior Caminero homered to start the seventh inning, closing out the scoring.

I noticed that, in the first two games of this series, A.J. Hinch stuck with his opening batting order.  He did not send a pinch-hitter or defensive substitution into the game.  In this game, the only game of this series which the Tigers lost, he called on two pinch-hitters.

The Tigers have the day off today, then they open a weekend series against the Mariners.
