As usual, the Tigers go from an offensive explosion to a low-scoring game the next day.  Tigers lead 1-0 in the bottom of the 5th.  Framber has allowed quite a bit of traffic but no damage yet.  Hunter Brown is looking like Hunter Brown and is keeping the Tigers in check.

Well, so much for a 1-0 lead, Dingler with a passed ball with 2 outs in the 5th allows the tying run.
Dingler has been a bit sloppy lately (he had a costly throwing error in the Cleveland series).  Dingler was also thrown out at home by a mile in the top of the 1st.  Another reckless waive home from Joey Cora.

Valdez got out of the 5th with no more damage so it's tied 1-1 after 5.

Montero on in relief. I guess he’s the odd man out, but he’s still on the ML roster so that’s something.

Gave up a hit in the 7th but no runs. Still 1-1 heading to the 8th.

And we lose 4-2.  A McGonigle error in the 8th contributed to the loss.
Montero gets charged with allowing 2 runs in the 8th and gets charged with the loss.  Vest allowed 2 inherited runners to score.
Another blown lead by the bullpen, but only scoring 2 runs isn't going to cut it.  Sigh.

I feel bad for Montero.  He's been one of our best starters but gets relegated to the bullpen in a numbers game and is ineffective in his first bullpen appearance.
(I still think Montero could be a good reliever, but I hate seeing him taken out of the rotation right now).

This loss was all about poor defense. Errors from McKinstry and McGonigle, passed ball by Dingler, and another tailor- made DP ground ball induced by Vest that turned into an RBI hit because Lee was basically playing first base instead of the normal position for a 2B in that situation. That positioning is also on the manager.

I strongly suspect that Verlander will struggle to be as effective a starter as Montero has been.

Montero and Vest were let down by bad defense.

Lee's positioning was bad in the 8th.   I wonder if a healthy Torres makes that play.
Losing Torres really hurts this team.  It's not that he's a superstar or anything, but he's a solid veteran who has good at-bats and has been making the plays at 2B.

This team is so sloppy with the fundamentals.  Dingler getting thrown out at home in the 1st was bad as well.  Joey Cora sent him home when he had no chance.  Cora makes Gene Lamont look good.
