While some Tigers were in Lakeland taking on the team from Panama, others were in the Dominican Republic, taking on their team. The Tigers tied the Dominicans this afternoon, 4-4.
The Tigers led off the scoring In the top of the second, Spencer Torkelson was hit by a pitch, went to second on a single by Colt Keith, went to third on a walk to Zach McKinstry, and scored on a fielder's choice grounder off the bat of Thayron Liranzo.
In the bottom of the third, Fernando Tatis singled, Ketel Marte singled, the runners advanced on a wild pitch, and Juan Soto tripled to drive in Mr. Tatis and Mr. Marte.
Juan Soto hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth.
In the top of the ninth, Jack Penney walked, Sergio Tapia waked, Gage Workman doubled to drive in Mr. Penney, and Seth Stephenson singled to drive in Mr. Tapia and Mr. Workman. The Tigers had a 4-3 lead.
Pedro Severino led off the bottom of the ninth with a single, went to second on a ground out, went to third on a single by Junior Lake, and scored on a single by Carlos Santana.
35-year-old Burch Smith was the starter for the Tigers. He allowed two hits but no walks and no runs in 1 2/3 innings. He struck out one.
32-year-old Scott Effross got the last out of the second, and the first two outs of the third. He gave up two runs on two hits in the third. He struck out two.
26-year-old Tyler Mattison got the last out of the third and the first out of the fourth. He gave up two hits and two walks during his time on the mound today.
30-year-old lefty Sean Guenther gave up one run, a solo home run by Juan Soto. That was the only hit he allowed in 1 2/3 innings of work.
27-year-old Cole Waites gaave up two hits but no walks and no runs in the sixth.
28-year-old lefty Konnor Pilkington gave up one hit and no walks in the seventh.
25-year-old Dylan Smith got two outs in the eighth, but only pitched to the two batters.
27-year-old Carlos Pena got the last out of the eighth and the first out of the ninth. He gave up a hit, and his runner came around to score.
26-year-old Tanner Kohlhepp gave up two hits, allowing the inherited runner to score. He struck out one.
The Tigers will have the day off tomorrow, then will face the Red Sox in Fort Myers on Friday. Justin Verlander will start for the Tigers.
