Well, this solves the mystery of why they haven’t been using Vest this week.  Injuries are piling up.

- Will Vest placed on 15-day injured list with right lateral forearm inflammation.
- Ricky Vanasco purchased from Triple-A Toledo; Yoniel Curet designated for assignment.

I had to go look it up. He was a waiver claim from Philly on April 13th. Made 1 appearance for Toledo. Pitched 0.2 innings and gave up 1 earned run.

The Tigers have the second most injuries in MLB. A list of the main injured guys below:

Olson
Verlander
Mize
Melton
Jobe
Vest
Brieske
McKinstry
Meadows
Baez

Obviously, the big blows have been mainly on the pitching side.

Is this the Fetter curse lurking again?  The Tigers have had a dramatic number of pitching injuries - frankly almost everybody - since Fetter joined on.

Predicting Flaherty will be next although his "injury" might be in his mind.  He seems to have the pitching "yips".  He is a headcase.

Vanasco has been lights-out with Toledo.  0 runs allowed in 10 appearances, 15 innings, with 28 Ks and 4 walks.  He's averaging 17 Ks per 9 IP.

Vanasco can miss bats, but command has always been his issue.  We'll see if he can translate his AAA performance to the majors.  We need him to be effective because we're starting to run thin on relievers.

What pitching mechanics/techniques does Fetter teach that might contribute to arm injuries?

Curet was considered a pretty good relief prospect a couple of years ago in the Rays' system but control problems held him back.  The Rays traded him to the Phillies in December but he was DFA'd by the Phillies in early April.  Curet throws a 95+ mph sinker, plus a cutter and change-up.

Probably if anyone knew the answer to that it wouldn't happen ;-)
But he has been known to get a few more mph on pitchers' pitches, even for experienced players. He must have some technique to achieve that which is uncommon, or everyone would do it already.

Trying to find interviews/articles about what Fetter is known for teaching/emphasizing with pitchers.  

Trying to add mph could certainly increase stress on the arm.
