Flaherty pitching in Cinci's bandbox ballpark is bad news waiting to happen.  Reds hit 2 homers in the 1st to take a 4-1 lead.  McGonigle led off the game with a homer.  What a silly ballpark.

Flaherty gave up 3 homers and mercifully only lasted 2 innings. 

Maybe they can invent an "injury" for Flaherty?

Tigers trail 6-2 in the bottom of the 5th.  Solo homers from McGonigle and Tork (4th straight game with a homer), 5 homers total between both teams so far.  Just another typical game in Cinci.

Mcgonigle with another three hits. I keep waiting for him to show signs of slowing down. His confidence is thru the roof. If Tork stays hot maybe we can do a little damage in the next few weeks.

Obviously it’s still very early, but Jayson Stark of The Athletic had a story the other day about how IF McGonigle can keep this up (+.300 BA, more BBs than Ks) for the season, he’ll join a select group of players who have done that at the age of 21 or younger. All those who have accomplished it are HOFers.

Tigers have come back and tied it 4-4 after 6 innings.  They chased Rangers' starter Gore in the 4th.

Brenan Hanifee pitched a scoreless inning in the 5th.  He was called up from Toledo today to replace Connor Seabold, who went on the IL with a sore ankle. 

Hurter is pitching now to start the 7th.

Flaherty is a disaster.

Verlander seems to be slow coming back from the hip injury.  I'm worried he'll be Alex Cobb, Part 2.

Melton probably won't be ready until the 2^nd half.  I'm still concerned he has an elbow issue, and we know that could potentially mean.

We might have to go back to bullpen chaos to replace Flaherty's spot in the rotation.

Well, when you need to use a bunch of relievers because the starter can't go 4 innings, eventually one of them will give up a run.  Burch Smith allowed a single and then an RBI double in the 8th.  Tigers trail 5-4 going into the bottom of the 9th.

Lee, Torres and McGonigle are due up against lefty Jacob Latz. 

McGonigle is 0-4 tonight, but will get one more chance to keep his on-base streak going.  Fingers-crossed.

Tigers go 1-2-3 against the lefty and lose 5-4. 

Lee missed a couple of hittable pitches. Torres got a hittable fastball on a 3-2 count to hit deep but flied out to CF.  McG grounded out to end it on a 1-1 count so his streak ends.

Troy Melton made a rehab start for Lakeland today and allowed 2 runs (1 earned) on 2 hits in 1.2 IP with 2 Ks and 0 walks.

He was at 98-99 mph with his fastball.
