Is it just my imagination or has the volume of speculation by baseball writers about potential roster moves by the Tigers (and other teams) during this Hot Stove season skyrocketed compared to prior years?  And is there any writer who actually has a clue as to what's going on?

That said, I wonder how much bandwidth the Tigers front office has to juggle multiple player calculations at once.  Are they focusing on 3B, relievers, starters, or OF's this week...or all of the above?

Signing a very pricey fee agent if the Tigers think they have a major-league-ready potential star in their system  at the same position probably doesn't make sense.  But "major-league-ready" doesn't automatically translate into stardom.  And even the "ready" part is never guaranteed.  From Tigers history, contrast Tram and Lou with Torey Lovullo.  (I think Lovullo got much more pre-season hype than either Whitaker or Trammell had.)

I think the volume of speculation goes up every year. I assume it's because the number of media outlets has expanded to basically anyone with an internet connection and writers are under pressure to produce constant content so when there's not a lot of actual news to report we get the speculative what-might-they-do pieces.

I don't pay any attention to it- it is 99% speculation and/or wishful thinking. To me it is akin to the completely pointless mock drafts that occur every year (especially for the NFL) and are universally wrong.

Nobody is going to tip their hand to the media and spoil deals that are in the works.
