I don’t think it’s this exact article, but I read a piece today about the Hinch extension where Harris said all available resources would be used to sign Skubal long term.

Hmmm… The comment from Harris that I keep seeing from that press conference about Skubal is he can’t comment on anything.

I also read the article where Harris said they would resign Skubal.  That makes me quite nervous.  I don’t expect Skubal will give the Tigers a big discount.

They'll sign him to a 10-year deal and he'll need TJS in 2 years.

Harris implied that the other teams were asking for Troy Melton in return for possible trades at the deadline.

Glad that didn't happen.  Suarez for Melton or Helsley for Melton would have been terrible.

This is what Harris said yesterday at the press conference and what I was referring to in response to Paul yesterday.  Certainly not in the galaxy of claiming they’re definitely going to resign him :-)

Scott Harris on Tarik Skubal's future: "I can't comment on our players being traded. I can't comment on free agents. I can't comment on other team's players. I'm going to respond by just not actually commenting on it.”

Not what I read, and another lister corroborated my story. ;)   

That being said, I haven't found the article although I haven't had much time to look. And though I'm not against exploring possibilities of a long-term Skubal signing, my gut instinct is to not spend $400-$500M on a 30-year old pitcher (at the time of his next contract) no matter how good he is.

I wonder what the actual value of a championship is to the Tigers, all in.  Has anyone seen a breakdown of that?  Could be a good question for ChatGPT.

As we’ve seen with the 1984 team, the value of a championship can extend decades later with reunions, promotions, merchandise, etc.  Especially for a team that hasn’t won very often.
