Is Mize really our ace?

I was looking at some pitching stats and was a bit surprised to see that Mize has been better than Skubal by most metrics so far this season.

Aside from a few more walks, Mize is better or equal to Skubal in basically every category. And yet, as I mentioned recently, there has been no discussion in the media about the need to re-sign Mize. Very weird.

Then there are our free agent starters:

Pretty bad.

Lots of talk that Mize might be the more attractive trade candidate for other teams at the deadline.

I predict the Tigers won't re-sign Mize.  I can see a team like the Mets, Phillies, Cubs, Braves or Astros making him a big offer.

It may not be realistic, but I would like the Tigers to re-sign Mize with a view to him being the ace if Skubal departs. And he would be a great # 2 if Skubal re-signs.
