Last year at the deadline Scott Harris traded 19-year-old catching prospect Enrique Jimenez to the Twins for Chris Paddack. Jimenez was one of the better Tigers' prospects and was still a teenager.
I thought it was a terrible trade at the time. You don't give up good 19-year-old catching prospects who have good power-hitting potential, draw a lot of walks and don't strike out a lot, for replacement-level veteran pitchers. Predictably, Paddack was a failure
for the Tigers. The Twins totally ripped off Harris. Harris panicked at the deadline last year.
Jimenez just got promoted by the Twins from A-ball to high A-ball at age 20 after hitting .314/.490/.514 with 2 homers in 35 AB, 13 walks and only 8 Ks for A-ball Fort Myers in the Florida State League (Jimenez started the season in the IL so he missed the
first few weeks of the season). Jimenez has hit 2 homers in his first 4 games this past week for high-A Cedar Rapids in the Midwest League. (Jimenez started the season on the IL so he only recently was activated).
I think the Tigers could regret that trade in a few years.
