Tigers win 10-2. The 2024 Magic is back!

Flaherty with another solid start against some dangerous hitters.

The Fetter Magic seems back as well with turning a scrap heap guy like Wagu into a decent reliever and turning Flaherty back into a plus starter.  Heck, even Brieske threw 2 shutout innings tonight.

Valencia with 2 more hits.  Watch out, Tork!

Tigers are now 2.5 behind a wild card spot.  Unbelievable.

White Sox and Guardians won tonight so the Tigers stay 4.5 behind 1st, but Twins lost so the Tigers are now 1.5 behind them.

I believe the Tigers have the best record in MLB since June 1.

We'd almost be running away with the division and comfortably have a wild card spot if we were even just below .500 in May.  What a horrible month that was.

I guess this is why Hinch keeps his job.  He somehow gets his team to be competitive and come back from being in holes.

The guy makes infuriating lineup choices, questionable bullpen moves, and other questionable tactical choices, but you've got to hand it to him again because the Tigers are back in contention after looking dead-to-rites after May.  (Yes, I know it helps that the rest of the AL is so bad).

That certainly helps, although some of the guys they've acquired/brought up since June have been better than the guys they used as subs in May. 

It's true the Tigers were short-handed with injuries in May, but I thought Hinch shot himself in the foot a lot with his choice of personnel and lineup choices.  That might be more on Harris than Hinch, though.  (I mean, who insisted on bringing in Zack Short?).

One thing about Hinch is that he's very patient.  That can be a good thing or a bad thing.  He really thought Jones would start hitting but it never happened.  He kept putting Perez in the lineup even though Perez wasn't hitting, although Perez did start hitting better toward the end of May before he got hurt.  He kept playing McKinstry even though he was in a terrible slump.  McKinstry has been hitting much better in June/July.
