Piggybacking off this selection, JV announces that he will retire at the end of the season. I’ve attached a screenshot of his statement.

JV pitched very well in the 2^nd half last year for the Giants.  The Tigers hoped he could continue his 2nd-half form (or something close to it) this year, but his body broke down.  That will happen to a 43-year-old pitcher.  Oh well, it would have been fun to have had a "last hurrah" season for JV with Detroit, but it wasn't to be.

Thanks for all the great pitching, JV.  You should have stayed a Tiger for your career, but got caught up in the wake of Mike Ilitch's spending sprees.
