They'll move him to 2B.

I don’t think Yost was considered a first round prospect. But, the Tigers system is deep enough that they could afford to reach a bit.
Must be something they see in him and/or Harris and Co wanted more SS depth in the system.

Hopefully it doesn’t mean the org is skeptical about Rainier’s recovery from his injury.

Kind of wanted the Tigers to focus on pitching in the draft, but I know with the 24th pick overall it starts to be a crapshoot and you grab whoever you can get.
I wanted the Tigers to draft Texas high school SS/2B Kayson Cunningham if he was available but he went a bit higher than expected at #18 overall to Arizona.  Cunningham draws a lot of comparisons to Kevin McGonigle.

Tigers have the 34th pick coming up shortly.  Maybe they'll grab a pitcher with that pick.

Indeed, MLB had him ranked 50th.  My suspicion is that it's a
cost-saving pick to sign someone to a higher bonus later on.  I'm a
little worried that Yost's power is rated only 40/80.

The Tigers are on the clock now.  Interestingly, Slater de Brun, whom
several mock drafts has us taking, is still on the board.

At the amateur level, the shortstop is generally the best athlete on the team, which makes him more easily trainable to switch to another position. It amazes me how many shortstops get converted to second base, where  the moves around the keystone are the mirror image of what the shortstop does -- the baseball version of Ginger Rogers dancing with Fred Astaire: everything he does, but backwards and in heels.

Any risk that Yost doesn’t sign?  He’s committed to Florida and his brother plays there.

Yost reportedly rarely strikes out.  Would be fun if he’s another Jacob Wilson.

Yost reportedly was impressive at the scouting combine and his ranking jumped up a lot after that.  He is supposed to have good bat control and a good eye and we know Harris looks for that.

Oliveto wasn’t ranked that highly as a high school senior catcher in Long Island, but he reportedly hit for a ton of power in a recent scouting event.  He was recruited by some SEC schools but chose to go to Yale of all places.  Maybe he wanted to stay closer to home. We’ll see if the bonus money will convince him to skip going to Yale and play minor league baseball for the Tigers.

Tigers seem to be focusing on pitching on Day 2 - a mix of both college guys and high schoolers so far. I don't have line of sight into how good any of them are or if the HS players are likely to sign pro contracts or attend school.
