> Cleveland Guardians 5, Detroit Tigers 2 - final
Another day, another loss for the Tigers.
The Tigers started the scoring in this game. In the top of the third, Zach McKinstry hit a ground-rule double, and scorred on a double by Wenceel Perez.
In the top of the sixth, Riley Greene hit a home run with two outs. That gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead.
Tarik Skubal was cruising along for the first five innings, but in the bottom of the sixth, he made a throwing error on a bunt by Angel Martinez. He never seemed to recover. The bunt was supposed to move Steven Kwan along, after Mr. Kwan had already bunted for a single. However, with the throwing error, there were runners on second and third with none out. Jose Ramirez then singled to drive in Mr. Kwan, and Mr. Martinez scored on a wild pitch. Mr. Ramirez advanced to second on that same wild pitch, and went to third on a balk. He then scored on a ground out to first base.
In the bottom of the seventh, after striking out the first two Guardians batters, Tommy Kahnle walked Austin Hedges. Then, Kyle Finnegan came on, Steven Kwan doubled, and Daniel Schneemann singled to drive in Mr. Hedges and Mr. Kwan.
The Tigers have now lost seven games in a row. The Guardians and Tigers are now tied for the lead in the American League Central Division. One will go to the playoffs, and the other might get a wild card spot, or might not.
