Inspired by the SABR publications Deadball Stars of the National League and Deadball Stars of the American League, and continuing in the vein of the Rounder Books publications 75: The Red Sox Team that Saved Baseball and The 1967 Impossible Dream Red Sox: `Pandemonium On The Field, a collaborative effort has begun between members of SABRs chapters in Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids and Toledo, SABRs BioProject Committee and the Mayo Smith Society, the nationwide organization of Detroit Tigers fans -- and there is considerable cross-pollination here -- on a book of biographical profiles of each member of the 1968 Tigers team that won the World Series.

Having laid the groundwork for this project over the past month, we are now ready to tell the world, and to seek the assistance of one and all with writing, editing, photos and design. I am serving, at least for the time being, as project coordinator, and you may reach me via e-mail, or by phone at 202-541-3263 (work) or 202-829-9289 (home).

The writers of three biographies of Tigers players which appeared in the aforementioned Red Sox books have given their permission for their work to be republished in the proposed 1968 Tigers tome. We are in the process of securing consent from writers who have contributed profiles of some 1968 Tigers for the BioProject to have their work appear in our planned book.

Some players remain unassigned, including:
Les Cain
Dave Campbell
Norm Cash
Bob Christian
Wayne Comer
Tony Cuccinello
Pat Dobson
Roy Face
Fred Lasher
Tom Matchick
Hal Naragon
Daryl Patterson
Dennis Ribant
Jim Rooker
Joe Sparma
Don Wert
If you are interested in contributing a biography to this project, or in
lending any other assistance or expertise, please contact me offline or by
phone. Thanks.

From this list, the name Norm Cash certainly stands out. I'm surprised
he wasn't assigned already.
