I just saw a graphic that I had to check out on Baseball Reference, just to see if it was correct.

Tork's career batting average with the bases loaded is..........(drum roll).........  .081!!!

If we include his at bats with runners on second and third, it rises to a majestic...... .086!

Wow. A total of 6 hits in 92 plate appearances in those situations. Two singles and 4 doubles. The other "positive" outcomes he's generated have been 12 walks, 1 HBP, and 9 sac flies.

But, man. 6 hits. That's just pathetic.

Want to see Tork at the plate with runners on 2nd and 3rd and less than 2 outs? No, you certainly don't. 25 plate appearances, ZERO hits.

I honestly didn't think he was THAT bad!!

Yah, but Tork is great with a runner only on third!   In 81 PA, he's hitting .292/.420./.477.
And he's almost as great with first-and-third:    in 76 PA, he's hitting .311/.382/.475.

It seem Tork has an amazing innate clutch capability to hit with a runner at third, but it totally vanishes when there is *also* a runner at second!

Or maybe these are small sample sizes :-)

And I guess if we're feeling generous, we can agree that with the bases loaded, the minimum you need to do is at least get one runner home.  So we need to add up all those numbers:
6 hits + 12 walks + 1 HBP + 9 sac flies = 28 times he got the runner from 3rd home (and an RBI) out of 92 opportunities.   Wondering if there were any RBI groundouts in there as well?  :-)

So Tork  can be Hinch’s pinch-hitting specialist when there's a runner at 3rd. 😬

Often these situational hitting stats are skewed by smaller sample sizes, but I think Tork has a mental block with the bases loaded.  The guy overthinks but he also misses too many hittable pitches.  On Saturday with the bases loaded and nobody out he got a 2- meatball and fouled it off and then he grounded into a DP in that AB.  This happens all the time with him.
Some people think Tork just doesn't have good enough bat speed and that's why he's often late on hittable pitches.  He has a decent eye and natural power but his bat speed isn't elite level.
