Here’s the montage of the inning. Can anyone tell me what on earth Skubal was doing on that sac bunt, throwing it between his legs? He is getting roasted for that on social media right now.

What a shame his otherwise fine season has to end like this.

Don’t give up hope yet. We still have two more hits to go to get to our s stage of six.

17 Ks.  Let's get to 20.  They really know how to control the zone.

Here we go in the 9th: Greene, Dingler and McKinstry.  Good chance of 3 Ks to reach 20.

McKinstry spoils it by lining out to end the game.

Your team strikes out 19 times in the biggest game of the season.  Not a good look.  Where's the game preparation?
It was just swing as hard as you can and pray you hit a homer.  So much for Scott Harris's organizational hitting philosophy.  They've regressed.

Just terrible approaches, but according to @umpstrikezone on X, tonight's home plate ump, Edwin Moscoso, had seven called third strikes against the Tigers — and one against Cleveland — that were balls. That seems like a lot of missed third-strike calls, but given how poorly the hitters were swinging the bat, they probably would've ended up striking out swinging on following pitches, anyway. Maybe Moscoso was just helping the game move along.

The umpiring in some games recently has been bottom of the barrel bad.

The ump in the Padres-Brewers game the other night missed 25 calls according to the Umpire Scorecard.  One of the worst ever.
He made Angel Hernandez look good.

Skubal has had a fantastic year, and even a good game today, but that was a bush league play that might have cost us the title.

Skubal seemed clearly (and understandably) rattled after hitting Fry in the face with a 99-mph fastball on a bunt attempt.  Skubal made a bunch of mental mistakes after that.

Skubal went to the hospital after the game last night to visit David Fry and make sure he was OK.  Class act for sure.

Skubal is a scarily intense guy on the mound, but it showed strong character and compassion to be obviously shaken by what happened to Fry and to check in on him.

I do think Skubal was rattled for a couple of batters after what happened to Fry and it contributed to the wild pitch and balk.  Skubal said he wasn't distracted, but I got the impression from Dingler that he had to try calming Skubal down.
Skubal was probably already a bit distracted and upset with himself for making that silly between-the-legs throwing decision on the bunt earlier in the inning before Fry came to bat.

Just an unfortunate sequence of events for Skubal and the Tigers.   Fits right in with all the bad luck the Tigers have been stuck with in the 2nd half.
