Obviously the best case scenario is Tigers win today and Cleveland loses. Then the Tigers win the Central and host Cleveland for the entire wildcard series.

I think the second best scenario is if the Tigers and Cleveland both win and the Jays also win their game. That would send the Tigers to New York. I feel the Yankees are the team the Tigers have the best chance against on the road.

I’m more nervous about them having to go to Cleveland, which happens if they lose today… Or come here to Toronto, which happens if the Tigers lose, the Yankees win and the Jays lose.

On the personal side, the Blue Jays and Tigers have not only never played each other in the postseason, they’ve never even been in the postseason in the same season! I don’t want them to meet in a wild card series. I’d like to see both teams go further and then hopefully meet in the ALCS! Would be fun for me… And of course, a chance to see one of the games here in person.

I know it’s the obvious answer but I don’t like any of the matchups given how poorly we’ve played lately.

Even though we’ve lost five out of our last six to them, Cleveland seems like the best matchup on paper so I guess I’d take them as my preference, whether the series was at home or away.

Detroit is the only team to have played the Yankees in the postseason and never lost to them (2006 ALCS, 2011 ALDS, 2012 ALCS).

Don't want to push our luck with that streak.  ;-)

Remember...

In 2006 we licked "Murderer's Row and then Cano."

In 2011, Donnie Baby Kelly and Delmon Young smacked homers in the climactic Game 5.

In 2012 we swept the Yanks and had 'em down even before Jeter got hurt?

What makes this aggregation any scarier than those?

Cleveland has been winning with smoke and mirrors and luck. Their run differential on the season is negative. They have no business even making the playoffs. We have to hope they revert to form.

Law of averages.  Our luck vs. the Yankees in the playoffs is due to run out.
