Tigers are 80-60 so there are only 22 games left to play. So 4 more times through the full rotation.

Glad Paddack isn’t getting any more starts and apparently he had a death in the family so he’ll be gone for a few days. I don’t see any point in him pitching another inning for the Tigers this season.

And I’m glad Sawyer Gibson Long got a start tonight to see if he could be a potential solution… and I think he’ll get one more opportunity but the 5th starter is fortunately going to become irrelevant soon enough.

Tigers have 4 off days in September. Feels like one strategy could be to just start setting up the 4 man postseason staff about halfway through the month. And with the pretty secure division lead, they probably could just do a couple of bullpen games in the last week as well if they want to give those starters a little rest.

Or is there any chance Olson finds his way back before the end of the month?

Really not much time left for anyone else to make a big push so I think we’re kind of stuck with Skubal-Mize-Flaherty-Morton for the postseason (unless Olson is a factor).

It would certainly help if Mize & Flaherty become more consistent.

I think you're going to see Hinch try to be creative with the pitching again in the #4-#5 slots.  Maybe some tag-team starts where SGL or Urquidy goes 2-3 innings, then Melton goes 2-3 or Hurter goes 2-3 (after he comes back), or even Holton in longer stints.   You could see Morton be used more in this role as well, going 2-3 inning stints.

Olson is a wild card.  He'll need to come back pretty soon in order to rehab at Toledo and be ready for post-season.

SGL was very effective the first time through the order tonight. The second time through was disastrous. He may be better as a reliever. Paddack has been bad the majority of his appearances. I see no reason to keep him on the roster at all.

Sad when Jake Rogers looks like your most effective relief pitcher. And of course there was very little offense until garbage time. Such a streaky team.

Reassuring start today from Casey Mize.  Has held the Mets to 1 run through 5.

Riley G just hit a 2-run single off our old pal Gregory Soto.

3-1 Tigers after 5.
