26-year-old righty reliever Dylan Smith has been pitching well for the Giants.  Smith came up through the Tigers' system and made 7 appearances for the Tigers last year with a 1.38 ERA as a rookie.  The Tigers DFA'd Smith at the end of spring training this year (to make room for Kevin McGonigle on the 40-man roster) and the Giants ended up purchasing him.  I remember at the time wondering why they gave up on Smith, who showed some promise last year.  I know they had to make room for McGonigle, but I'm sure there was some other scrub they could have DFA'd (for example, Trei Cruz).

The Tigers have given up on some serviceable relievers the past 2 seasons (P.J. Poulin and Matt Gage last year, for example) and Smith is the latest.

Heck, even this season, Emmanuel DeJesus was pitching better out of the bullpen in May and June but the Tigers buried him in Toledo in favor of Drew Sommers.
I'm not sure what Hinch has against DeJesus.
