The Tigers took an early lead against the Rays in Lakeland, but eventually, they settled for a 4-4 tie.

In the bottom of the first, Wenceel Perez walked, stole second, and scored on a two-out single by Riley Greene.

In the bottom of the second, Austin Slater doubled, and John Peck homered.


In the top of the fourth, Will Simpson doubled, Victor Mesa Jr. singled to drive in Mr. Simpson, Mr. Mesa advanced on a throw to the plate, stole third base, and scored on a throwing error by Dillon Dingler.

In the top of the sixth, Justyn-Henry Malloy walked, Marshall Toole pinch-ran for Mr. Malloy, and Will Simpson homered to drive in Mr. Toole.

kevin McGonigle led off the bottom of the seventh with a home run.  That finished the scoring in this game.

Framber Valdez gave up two runs, one of which was earned, on four hits in four innings.  He struck out six, and walked none.

Brant Hurder pitched a scoreless inning in the fifth.  He walked one, but allowed no hits.

Kyle Finnegan gave up two runs, both of which came on a home run.  It was the only hit he allowed.  He walked one, and struck out one.  He only got two outs.

Carlos Pena got the last out of the sixth, and stayed to pitch the seventh.  He allowed one hit and one walk, but no runs.  He struck out two.

Will Vest ave up two hits in the scoreless eighth inning.

Tanner Rainey walked one but allowed no runs and no hits in the ninth.

Tomorrow, the Tigers will travel to Fort Myers, to face the Red Sox.  Sonny Gray will start for the Red Sox, while Tyler Madden will take the mound for the Tigers.
