Mackenzie Gore to Texas in exchange for five prospects.

All the players Washington is acquiring are ranked between 2 and 18 in MLB.com's Rangers prospect list. I don't believe Texas is thought to have a particularly deep system, but still - that's a big return!

Gore has a ton of talent but hasn't consistently put it together yet. Perhaps this return or something even stronger could have been what we'd have gotten for Skubal had there been a deadline deal in 2024 (I'm not saying we should have traded Skubal then - just comparing today's trade with what-might-have-been).

I guess the Rangers think Gore can be better than he's been.  The best prospect the Nationals received among the 5 is 18-year-old SS Gavin Fien, who was the Rangers' 1st-round pick last year.

I was wondering if the Tigers might have been interested in Gore.  Seems like someone who could possibly have stepped in for Skubal after he leaves.
