Hao-Yu Lee is back on the team and in Cleveland this afternoon. Would assume this means Jones is being released?

Let's hope so. Not that Lee is great, but he plays IF and right now we have a glut of OFers (though I know Jones rarely plays in the field).

Jones needs to go because his only value is as a lefty masher and he's failed miserably in that role this season.
However, I think Lee would be better off playing every day for Toledo rather than being one of Hinch's platoon gang.  Lee is still fairly young for his level.

The only other righty-hitting options at Toledo besides Lee on the 40-man roster are Trei Cruz (switch hitter, good athlete, plays multiple positions, but can't hit) and C/1B/DH Eduardo Valencia (bad defensive catcher, but can play 1B/DH and does have good power).

Somebody also has to be dropped to make room for Skubal.  Maybe the new guy, Wagubeef?

I suppose Flaherty could go on the IL to make room for Skubal or Mize.  Haven't seen anything yet about Flaherty's leg issue.

Apparently, it’s still up in the air about Flaherty on the DL and that’s why Lee is there. if Jack goes on the DL, then they have the extra bat to take his spot for the series.

Ty Madden has been sent down to open up a spot for Skubal.

Lineup was just posted and there is a 3rd roster move. Flaherty has been placed on the IL. Lee recalled and is starting at 3rd and hitting 9th.

And Jones is in the lineup against the lefty Cantillo.
Tigers have had a lot of baserunners so far but only 1 run. They lead 1-0 in top of the 2nd.

Unfortunately Skubal just gave up a 2-run shot to Daniel Schneeman who came in hitting .227 with a .646 OPS.  On a 0-2 pitch.

Cleveland leads 3-1 after 3.

Skubal has already thrown 57 pitches.  Has allowed 4 hits.

And Jones is 0-2 and has left 4 runners on base, including 2 in scoring position.

Why do Carp and Keith sit for this?

Rusty Skubal.  Probably to be expected.
Would have been nice of his teammates to score some runs for him.

Dingler with a throwing error on a double steal attempt in the 2nd allowed the first Cleveland run.

Cleveland tries stuff like double steals while the Tigers sit on their butts hoping in vain for a homer from the likes of Jahmai Jones.

Tigers trail 3-1 in the bottom of the 9th.  Plenty of baserunners for the Tigers in this one, but horrible situational hitting.
Skubal was a bit rusty but kept us in the game.

Outman just walked to lead off the 9th against Cade Smith, but McKinstry just struck out.
Torres and McGonigle are up next.

Torres singled to move Outman to 2nd.  McGonigle and Dingler up next.  Tigers have had more baserunners than Cleveland in this game.

McGonigle grounded out on a 3-2 pitch from Smith outside the zone that would have been ball 4 to move the runners to 2nd and 3rd, but Vierling grounded out on the 1st pitch to end the game.   Guards win 3-1.

I was feeling better about the Tigers' offense recently after Carp and Torres came back, but they've stunk it up in this important series.
Today was a pathetic display of unclutch hitting.  Tigers were 1-13 with RISP and left 11 runners on.

Cleveland always seem to have the Tigers' hitters scouted well and knows how to exploit their weaknesses.

Disappointing series. Was hoping the team would be pumped getting Skubal back but they can’t get anything going yet again against Cleveland. Obviously the Guardians are the better team this year.

Now back to 13 games under .500.   Really hard to imagine any sustained winning streak that could truly put them back into contention.

On a hitter-by-hitter matchup between the 2 lineups the Tigers might be better (even Ramirez's numbers are below normal this year) and the Tigers' rotation is as good as Cleveland's, but the Guardians' bullpen is way better and Cleveland finds ways to win games that the Tigers don't.  Cleveland also has better defense.  I also think Vogt often outmanages Hinch.

The Tigers' slim chances of getting back into contention are slipping away.  Pretty much a must-win on Sunday, but they really need several series sweeps and multi-game winning streaks in the next few weeks.  Fat chance of that happening with our current roster.

Tigers are facing righty Gavin Williams on Sunday.  He's another good Cleveland starter who absolutely dominates the Tigers (1.88 ERA vs. the Tigers in 7 career starts).

Jose Ramirez broke a bone in his wrist on Saturday so he'll be out a while.  Not that it probably helps the Tigers.  I'm sure the Guardians will have some scrub backup infielder hit 2 homers against us (e.g., Daniel Schneemann).
