The Tigers won their last Spring Training game of the year, beating the Rockies by an 11-8 score.

In the top of the first, Gleyber Torres doubled, and Dillon Dingler homered.

In the bottom of the thirs, with two outs, Willi Castro was hit by a pitch, Hunter Goodman singled, Ezequiel Tovar walked to load the bases, and Jordan Beck doubled to drive in Mr. Castro, Mr. Goodman, and Mr. Tovar.

Brett Sullivan led off the bottom of the fourth with a home run, giving the Rockies a 4-3 lead.

In the top of the fifth, Dillon Dingler homered.  Then, Colt Keith singled, Matt Vierling walked, and Wenceel Perez homered, giving the Tigers a 6-4 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth, Willi Castro singled, Nic Kent pinch-ran for Mr. Castro, and Ezequiel Tovar homered, tying the game.

In the top of the sixth, Kerry Carpenter was hit by a pitch, John Peck pinch-ran for Mr. Carpenter, Jahmai Jones doubled, and, two outs later, Max Anderson singled to drive in Mr. Peck and Mr. Jones.

In the top of the seventh, Eduardo Valencia singled, and Wenceel Perez hit his second home run of the game.  He wasted no time in trying to show that he wants to get back into the majors.

In the top of the eighth, Max Anderson homered.

In the bottom of the eighth, Tommy Hopfe doubled, and scored on a double by Troy Johnston.

Eduard Julien led off the bottom of the ninth with a triple, and scored on a ground out by Jose Cordova.

Justin Verlander gave up six runs, five earned runs, on eight hits and a walk in 4 2/3 innings.  He struck out four.  Two of his eight hits were home runs.

Brant Hurter got the last out of the fifth.

Casey Mize pitched the last four innings of the game.  He gave up two runs on six hits in those four innings.  He struck out three.

The Tigers will have the day off tomorrow, then will open the season in San Diego on Thursday.  Nick Pivetta will be the starter for the Padres, while Tarik Skubal will take the mound for the Tigers.  The game is scheduled to begin at 4:10 p.m., but pre-game ceremonies may delay the start a bit.

Hurter mentioned below made the team along with Enmanuel DeJesus.  Hanifee was the odd man out in the pen as he got sent down.
