Toledo has  gone 15-5 in August with 8 games where they scored 9 runs or more (14 tonight), and another 3 games with 7 runs scored.  They are averaging 7.5 runs/game in the month.

OPS of select Toledo players in August:
Valencia  1.280
Baddoo    1.108
Nido      1.015
Cruz       .973
Malloy     .954
Workman    .940
Anderson   .897

I wonder if some of these guys have an eye to joining the pennant race or post-season roster?

I know, Toledo's hitting numbers have been silly lately.  Are they playing in a bunch of bandbox ballparks?  Does the ABS system in AAA favor hitters?

Baddoo has been red hot, but, as we know, apart from his rookie year, he just hasn't hit when the Tigers call him up and his defense isn't as good as some of the other outfielders in front of him.  I doubt we'll see Baddoo in a Tiger uniform again (unless they want another lefty bat in September or an outfielder gets injured.)

I think we could see Malloy in September as the Tigers might want another righty bat against lefties, but if Jones and Ibanez keep hitting lefties well enough, there might not be room for Malloy.

I don't think we'll see Anderson or H. Lee this year, but they'll be given a chance to compete for the 2B job next year if the Tigers don't re-sign Torres, which is a strong possibility.

Mud Hens scored 13 more runs on Sunday, winning 13-4 at Rochester.

Malloy was 3-5 with a homer, a double and 4 RBIs.
Hao-Yu Lee with 3 hits and 2 RBIs.
Trei Cruz with 2 hits and a walk.
Baddoo with 4 walks.
Max Anderson with 2 more hits.

I notice veteran utility man Kevin Newman, who has played 8 years in the majors, including this year with the Angels, is playing SS for Toledo.
He signed as a free agent with the Tigers' system recently after the Angels released him.
Newman joined the hit parade with 3 singles.

Jose Urquidy gave up 2 runs in 2 innings.
SGL started as an "opener" for Urquidy, and tossed a shutout inning with 2 Ks.

Mud Hens scored 16 tonight.  Valencia hit 2 three-run homers and a two-run homer.

Wow, Valenica is on fire.  He's 25 so it's not like he's veteran minor league slugger like a Mike Hessman or something.  He probably deserves a chance with somebody in the majors. but he has no chance of being called up by the Tigers since he's not on the 40-man roster and he's not good enough defensively to replace Rogers as backup catcher, and Tork/Carpenter/Malloy are in front of him.

The Mud Hens scored 16 again.  Only one homer by Valencia today, so kind of a let down :-).  But the team did hit 6 homers in total.

Interesting that Malloy didn’t play in either of those games.  I wonder if he’s hanging around in Detroit?

The four Tigers minor league affiliates all won today by a combined score of 39 to 3.
