When Kerry Carpenter starts, the Tigers are 53-30 (.639)
When Carpenter plays but doesn't start, they are 7-8 (.467)
When Carpenter doesn't play, they are 14-15 (.483)

More evidence?  We all remember how the Tigers caught fire in the middle of August in 2024 and rode that hot streak all the way to the postseason.  Guess who came off the IL on August 13 last year and played his first game since May?

I'm in favor of Carpenter playing more against lefties, but I suspect the numbers Michael posted are more a product of our overall offense not being as good against lefties as they are against righties (probably since so many of our best hitters, not just Carpenter, are left handed).

Carp is the straw that stirs the drink for this offense, despite almost never drawing a walk.  Carp walked twice last night, which was a sign of the Apocalypse.

Interestingly, the Tigers have a .766 OPS vs. lefties and a .733 OPS vs. righties this season.
So despite Carpenter and Keith barely playing against lefties and Greene being much worse against lefties than righties, the Tigers are still doing better against lefties.  I think a big part of that is because Tork, Torres, Baez, Dingler and Perez really beat up on lefties, plus Jones and Ibanez have done ok against lefties in a platoon role.  McKinstry also has hit lefties better than righties, surprisingly.

Ah, I stand corrected.

My main point still stands - let Carp hit against lefties. lol

I think the Tigers have struggled more against lefties than righties since the AS break.  I saw a stat about that recently.
