Roster math update

Now that the Friday arbitration deadline has passed, here is an updated list of players signed for 2026. A few still have to come to terms on their specific salaries to avoid arbitration but the Tigers have committed to contracts to all of these hitters below:

Dingler 

Rogers

Tork

Torres

Keith

Baez

Vierling

McKinstry

Carpenter

Greene

That’s 10 locks…which only leaves 3 hitting spots open on the roster. Meadows & Perez figure to be in competition for spots, among others. Kind of disappointing in terms of hoping for a little more new blood next season, as we’ve been discussing.

On the pitching side, the locks for the roster I think are:

Skubal

Mize

Flaherty

Olson 

Melton

Vest

Holton

Brieske 

We could also add Hurter & Hanifee as they are both on the 40 man and I would think figure into the Tigers 2026 plans.  But that’s probably not 100%.

So there’s a little more room for new blood on the pitching side, particularly in the pen  obviously.

I wouldn't say Brieske is a lock yet.  He needs to prove he's healthy and can throw as well as he did in 2024.  

I think we'll be signing a couple of mid-level free agent relievers, such as re-signing Finnegan, and possibly a starter or some Cobb/Maeda/Urquidy type.  Or we could see a trade for a pitcher or two.

I just assumed since they just signed Brieske to a $1.15 million contract that he wouldn't be in Toledo, assuming good health.
