Tigers down 2-0 in the 3rd thanks to two shoddy plays. In the second Vierling was late getting back on a long fly and ended up playing it off the wall. He plays deep and only had about 20 feet to run. Tjis was catchable but he is not seeing the ball well off the bat. In the 3rd Perez misplayed a ball in the RF corner that led to another run on a very close play at home. If he gets the ball in a second fast the runner is easily out.

Meanwhile nothing is happening on offense.

Correction- down 3-0. Two runs scored on the Perez play although the first would have scored anyway.

Jeff, the play at home plate after Perez retrieved the ball was so close that I doubt the call would have been overturned whichever way the call on the field would have gone.

The Tigers TV announcers commented at length about Naylor's sliding glove coming off in Dingler's direction and whether that constituted obstruction.  Later they clarified that the criteria for an obstruction class requires clear intent.  While the trajectory of the glove looked a bit suspicious, it was hardly clear that the glove was aimed at Dingler.  And it did not appear that the glove actually interfered with the play.

Yes I agree but my point was that the throw in to home was delayed due to a misplay by Perez. If he plays it normally the runner would be easily out.

Playing Vierling and Perez in the OF is a ticking time bomb of bad defense waiting to happen.

More bad outfield defense: Riley Greene with an error allowing J-Rod to advance to 2nd on a single to lead off the 6th.
