Troy Melton (2.00 ERA in 8 starts) on the mound for the Tigers.

Tigers have already scored a run in the bottom of the 1^st on a bases-loaded RBI single by Greene.

Springs has been a bit wild early, but the Tigers let him off the hook and left the bases loaded.  Poor at-bats by Lee and Malgeri with the bases-loaded after Greene's RBI single.

Tigers lead 1-0 after 1.

I see Dingler had to leave the game after getting hit on the hand by a foul ball but the other day’s RV seems to have worked on Jake Rogers as he hit a 2-run homer after replacing Dingler in the lineup. 

3-0 Tigers in the 3rd.

The Athletics Nick Kurtz left the game early as well, and also had appeared to hurt his hand when of all people Dingler ran into him when Kurtz was trying to corral a wild throw. 

Hopefully both all stars aren’t out for long. 

Factoid from the Athletics broadcast: Rogers’ homer is the earliest in a game the Athletics franchise has ever allowed a pinch hit homer. I realize seeing a PH in the second inning is a rare occurrence, but still - that franchise has been around a long time and pitchers batted during the majority of that tenure.

I am visiting family in Windsor this week and was at this one. Great win! Melton looked fantastic again and it was nice to see Jake and Tork hit bombs. 

Interesting too to hear lots of boos for Jahmai Jones in my section. Ouch.

Melton was fantastic. The defense let him down for the one run and then the Athletics had some annoying ABs that drove his pitch count up so he could only go five and change, but he was really pretty dominant overall.

X-Rays were negative on Dingler's hand so hopefully he'll only be out a short time (if at all).

If he does need to go on the 10-day IL, it might be good timing since the All-Star break is coming up.  We could call up Valencia (he's on the 40-man roster) for a few games to see how he hits.   Or maybe they could DFA Jones (he was bad again tonight) and call up Valencia and not put Dingler on the IL.

I love that Melton had 9 Ks.  He's getting more swings and misses lately.  He's a legit #1-type starter.  Excellent 4th-round pick by Al Avila.  Just have to keep our fingers crossed Melton's elbow holds up.
