Tigers blasted Blue Jays on Saturday

On Saturday, Tarik Skubal and the Tigers beat the Blue Jays, 6-1.  The starter for the Blue Jays was Max Scherzer, but he was not the losing pitcher, as the Tigers still had not scored when his 4 2/3 innings were done.

The Tigers started the scoring in the top of the fifth, when Parker Meadows walked off new pitcher Tommy Nance, Kevin McGonigle walked, Matt Vierling doubled to drive in Mr. Meadows, and Wenceel Perez singled to drive in Mr. McGonigle.

Daulton Varsho started the bottom of the fifth with a home run, the only run that the Blue Jays would score in this game.

In the top of the seventh, Kevin McGonigle walked, Gage Workman came in as a pinch-runner for Mr. McGonigle, and Matt Vierling doubled to drive in Mr. Workman.

In the top of the eighth, Max Anderson doubled, and scored on a single by John Peck.  Mr. Peck went to second on the throw to the plate, and scord on a single by Andrew Jenkins.

In the top of the ninth, Zach MacDonald walked, went to third on a single by Eduardo Valencia, and scored on a single by Max Anderson.

Tarik Skubal gave up one run on three hits in 4 2/3 innings.  He struck out seven, and walked none.  He gave up  the home run by Mr. Varsho.

Jack Little gave up one hit in 1 1/3 innings.  He struck out one.

Burch Smith gave up one walk but no runs and no hits in the seventh.  He struck out one.

Tanner Rainey gave up one walk but no hits and no runs in the eighth.  He struck out two.

Sean Guenther gave up one hit and two walks but no runs in the ninth.  He struck out one.
