> New York Mets 12, Detroit Tigers 5 - final

The Mets again overwhelmed the Tigers' pitchers on Tuesday.  They will do that to a lot of pitchers, and they certainly did it to Sawyer Gipson-Long.

Pete Alonso started the scoring for the Mets with a home run with two outs in the top of the first inning.

In the bottom of the first inning, Kerry Carpenter walked, Riley Greene walked, Spencer Torkelson singled to drive in Mr. Carpenter, and Wenceel Perez singled to drive in Mr. Greene.  Mr. Perez was out at second on the play, but not before the run scored.

In the top of the fourth, Juan Soto walked and stole second base, Brandon Nimmo singled, Mark Vientos walked, Jeff McNeil singled to drive in Mr. Soto, Cedric Mullins hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Mr. Nimmo,  and Luis Torrens homered to drive in Mr. Vientos and Mr. McNeil.  The Mets had a 6-2 lead.

Juan Soto led off the top of the seventh with a home run.  The next batter, Pete Alonso, also homered.  Then, Brandon Nimmo singled, Mark Vientos doubled, Luisangel Acuna pinch-ran for Mr. Vientos, Jeff McNeil singled to drive in Mr. Nimmo and Mr. Acuna, Cedric Mullins was safe on a force out ot Mr. McNeil, Brett Baty singled to drive in Mr. Mullins, and Francisco Lindor hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Mr. Torrens.

In the bottom of the ninth, Jahmai Jones walked, Justyn-Henry Malloy doubled to drive in Mr. Jones, Wenceel Perez hit a ground-rule double to drive in Mr. Malloy, and Zach McKinstry singled to drive in Mr. Perez.

The Tigers would win on Wednesday, to keep the Mets from sweeping the series.
