The EPSN box-score for today's Tigers-Yankees game indicates that in the 9th inning, Hunter Dobbins came in to catch, moving Dillon Dingler to third base.

This is odd for three reasons:  As far as I know, Hunter Dobbins is a pitcher. This wasn't shown in the CBS Sports box score. And it would be weird for Dingler to be playing 3B for one inning given his recent injury.

Does anyone know if this is real, and/or why it happened?

Dobbins is listed as a catcher on the Tigers MLB page.

That page has the box score and it reflects what you say below. Dingler at 3rd.

It looks like it was just a box score glitch.  If you follow ESPN's own play-by-play, it shows Bennet Lee coming in to catch (in the 8th) and Max Anderson moving to third, with no Dobbins at all.  That matches the CBS box score, so I'll assume that is what really happened.  CBS also has Dingler leaving the game (for Roberto Cmapos to play LF).
