Framber Valdez has received a six-game suspension for deliberately throwing at a batter.

In addition to dealing with injuries to the starters, the Tigers have to deal with the consequences of having a hothead in their rotation.

Just got a notification from the MLB app. Suspension reduced to 5 games on appeal.

Isn’t that reduction meaningless?  Either way, he is clearly going to miss 1 start or have it pushed back.  That seems to be the desired punishment.

The Tigers have the day off tomorrow, then three games in Kansas City, another day off on Monday, and then they play the Mets at Citi Field starting on Tuesday.  Assuming his suspension starts today, he can next pitch on Wednesday of next week.

He has also received a fine.  Details are not available.

A.J. Hinch also received a one-0game suspension for his role in the incident.  He will serve that suspension tonight.

Carpenter & Keith desperately hoping they can stay in the batting lineup no matter what, now that someone else will be managing the Tigers tonight :-)

Any penalties for Red Sox players who exited the dugout?  I don't know if the Red Sox manager and/or coaches participated, but any penalty for any of them?

Was Hinch suspended for failing to control his bench (in which case, it would be ridiculous if the Red Sox manager didn't get the same penalty) or did he do or say something that triggered the penalty?  Or is a suspension of a manager automatically triggered by the suspension of Valdez?

My faith in Major League Baseball's evenhanded administration of penalties was destroyed by their failure to penalize Roger Clemens for egregious throwing at batters (yes, I know this was still the A.L.   when leagues were administered separately) and never fully restored.

It seems like managers automatically get a one-game suspension if one of his pitchers is suspended for throwing at a batter. I guess the theory is that the manager should counsel his pitchers not to throw at batters.

Don Kelly just got suspended for a game because MLB determined a Pirates pitcher, Chris Devenski, threw at Cincinnnati's Sal Stewart during a game this past weekend. Devenski initially was suspended for three games and fined. The suspension was reduced to two games.

I’m guessing it’s leftover from the old school days where it was clear the manager ordered the pitcher to throw at the hitter. The assumption that the pitcher is not acting on his own…

Think Billy Martin, Earl Weaver, Tommy Lasorda… Etc.
