3B Ibanez
2B Torres
LF Greene
DH Tork
RF Margot
1B Keith
SS Baez
C Rogers
CF Kreidler

I'll beat Peter to the punch - Snell could pitch a no-hitter tonight.

But really, what else can Hinch do. Though I'd like to see Carpenter in the lineup despite it being a tough lefty on the mound - it's opening day after all. Kreidler could sit and Tork could move over to first so Carp could DH. Carpenter will have to wait til a righty comes out of the pen and hit for either Margot or Kreidler.

First off, kind of funny that there was really huge doubt whether Torkelson would even be on the major league roster to start the season and in the end, he’s batting cleanup on opening day.

But it’s great because that’s where he was expected to be after being drafted #1 so hopefully he keeps his spring training roll going, as Peter said.

Secondly, yeah, the bottom 3rd of that order is likely going to get frustrating pretty fast for Tiger fans.

Anyway, play ball!!

"Kreidler could sit and Tork could move over to first so Carp could DH."

I meant Keith, not Kreidler.

It's kind of depressing that after all the excitement of August-October last year that this is the product the Tigers are putting on the field behind Skubal to start 2025.  I realize we've been hammered with injuries to the outfield, but this is brutally bad.

Hey, look, Tork walked and Margot hit a bloop single to RF to start the 2nd.  Tigers have 1st and 3rd with nobody out...
Well, so much for that.  Torkelson got caught in a rundown on a Keith chopper in front of the plate so it's now 1st and 2nd with 1 out and Baez batting.

Too many of our top hitters are lefties: Carp, Greene, Keith (plus Meadows if you want to count him as a "top hitter").  Our 3 top hitting prospects all bat lefty: McGonigle, Clark and Briceno.

Need some righty bats.  Baez isn't going to cut it.

Dodgers lead 1-0 in the bottom of the 3rd.
Dodgers swinging early in the count against Skubal.  Edman connected on a 1-1 fastball down the middle for a solo shot in the 2nd.

Tigers have put the leadoff man on twice with nothing to show for it.  The much-maligned Kreidler and Margot each have a single, and Tork has a walk.

Rogers just missed a 3-run homer to LF to end the 2nd.  Snell hung a curveball to Rogers that he launched but the leftfielder made the catch near the wall.

Torres already with some questionable defense at 2B.

I don’t think the one Torres play was his fault. The ball seemed to bounce off Skubal‘s glove and/or the mound so he couldn’t get to it in time.

Good game so far objectively. What you’d expect from two playoff teams from last year 😉

The Tigers are in midseason form with the terrible base running. Right after Tork inexplicably ran for home when the ball was 3 feet in front of the plate, a runner on second ran to third on a ball hit to the third baseman. It wasn’t an out but could have been.

Torres slipped trying to change directions after the ball deflected off Skubal.  Need some better spikes (just kidding).
I thought maybe a better defensive 2B might also have been able to grab Ohtani's grounder that went through for a single.  But it was hit pretty hard.

Tork has worked 2 walks vs. Snell.  Hey look, Margot just singled to RF again.  1st and 2nd and nobody out in the top of the 4th but the weak part of the order coming up.

Keith hit a chopper right in front of the plate, was Tork trying to bait the Dodgers to throw to 3rd to avoid Keith hitting into a 2-6-3 DP, or was it just dumb baserunning to be going on contact on that play?

Hey, Tork just scored on a Snell wild pitch with the bases loaded and 2 outs in the 4th.  We'll take it.  Kreidler struck out to leave 2 more men on base. That's 5 baserunners stranded in 4 innings.

Game tied 1-1 in the bottom of the 4th.

I think the Tork out on the bases was a contact play. I was willing Keith to do anything but strikeout and it turns out a K would have been better than what actually happened. :(

To Jeff's point about Margot's baserunning, I think it was a force play so Margot had no choice but to run; he did a good job to avoid getting tagged and Muncy went to first for the sure out.

Kreidler just made a great sliding catch on the run in deep CF. It was worthy of Parker Meadows.  Makes Hinch look smart putting Kreidler out there (too bad he had a terrible at-bat to end the 4th).

1-1 in the top of the 5th.  Poor Skubal, he's going to have a lot these low-scoring games.

Skubal looking like the Skubal of the Cleveland playoff series as he gives up a 3-run shot on the first pitch to Teoscar in the 5th.  Skubal's thrown a couple of meatballs tonight and paid the price.  That's what good hitters do.  The Tigers do nothing with meatballs.  Dodgers lead 4-2.

So frustrating.  Skubal has handled Ohtani so well and I thought he was getting out of the inning with Betts.

No one said playing the Dodgers is easy though.

Tork launches a solo shot 423-ft. to LF in the 7th.  He actually got a hanger and did something with it.  Is this the new Tork?
Tigers trail 4-3.

Sadly, the Tigers are 0-12 with RISP so far.  Carp had a chance to do something as a pinch hitter against a righty reliever but popped out to LF with 2 men on.  Tons of missed opportunities but this is a bad hitting team so not surprising.

Dodgers lead 5-3 in the bottom of the 7th.  Hanifee just gave up a solo shot to Ohtani.  He's a beast.  All you can do is admire how good he is.

Tigers finished 0-15 with RISP.  They lose 5-4.  It was an exciting and entertaining game at least.
They fought to the bitter end, though, leaving 2 men on in the 9th. I thought they were going to pull off another amazing comeback win like they kept doing down the stretch last year.   Riley Greene got a hanging curve from Treinen in the 9th but missed it with his big upper cut swing.  I thought he was going to crush it.

The Tigers had a lot of bad hitting luck tonight.  Ibanez hit the ball very hard 4 times and had nothing to show for it.
Sweeney crushed the first pitch he faced from Treinen in the 9th but pulled it foul before eventually striking out.  If it had been fair it would have been a 2-run go-ahead double.
Rogers just missed a 3-run homer.

Oh well, at least the scrubs did well tonight:  Margot with 2 hits and a sac fly.  Kreidler with a single and a great catch.  McKinstry with a triple against the tough lefty Scott and a walk (and he showed off a good arm at SS).

Torres with a pair of singles and a stolen base.  He might have stolen 3rd in the 9th if Tork hadn't fouled off a pitch after Torres got a great jump on Treinen.
The Tigers would have had Torres at 3rd with 1 out in the 9th.  Damn!

Tork was on base 5 times with 4 walks and a homer.  If this is the new Tork then watch out Ohtani. Ha ha!

Oh, by the way, the home plate umpire was terrible.  He must have given the Dodgers at least 5 strikes on pitches out of the zone.  Even the pro-Dodgers announcers were noticing it.  We really need the ABS system implemented ASAP.
