ESPN writers play GM.

Expect a lot of these pieces over the next two months. I'll try not to post them all. :)

Free article. Spoiler: The hypothetical Dodgers offer was determined to be the best one and I agree.

A couple of the Detroit sports writers indicated on the weekend that supposedly Tigers management has told teams that Skubal is not on the trading block right now.

I mean, he isn’t even back pitching yet, so what would be the point of discussing a trade when you don’t know if he’s going to return to form or not? And of course, the other part of it is the Tigers potentially climbing back into playoff contention if they continue to improve in June.

FYI - The trade deadline this year isn’t until August 3 so lots of time left for the Tigers to decide what their approach will be at the deadline.

Have a cautiously optimistic feeling the Tigers will get back in the race despite the big hole they dug for themselves in May.  The AL Central (and AL in general) is that bad.  If the Tigers can get within .500 range by the trade deadline (which I think they can if their best hitters and pitchers stay healthy), they will be in the race.

I also have this feeling the Tigers might be able to re-sign Skubal on a short-term deal (due to the uncertainty of the CBA and concerns about his elbow), but I know that's still a slim possibility.

I heard the Montreal Expos made a tremendous offer but they got turned down because it was unrealistic.

Baby steps first.  Tigers can make the next move in the division and slide into 3rd place with a 3-game sweep of Minnesota this week.  They are 2.5 games behind them now.

And then they go to Cleveland where they have a direct 3-game shot at the division leading Guardians.  With Skubal due back for that series, one can be a little optimistic at least.
