Valdez ejected

Just seeing that the Tigers are getting bombed by the Red Sox 10–3 after 5 innings and Valdez was ejected for deliberately throwing at a guy. Just when the Tigers desperately need a good pitching outing, he stinks up the joint *and* throws at a guy.

Boy, when Valdez doesn't have it, he really gets bombed.  He's kind of a "pitch-to-contact" guy and if his command is off he's not going to blow hitters away with his fastball.  The Tigers bombed him in a start last year, and this is his 2^nd blow-up start this year so far.  Sigh.

We need Valdez to step up with Skubal out for at least 2-3 months.

It is cool here tonight and I recall another game where it was chilly and he didn’t pitch well. Could be coincidence or maybe he doesn’t grip the ball well in cooler weather. But he was throwing BP to a Boston team that is awful offensively.

That was in Minnesota when it was very cold and windy.  He allowed 6 runs in the 1st.  Mize also had his worst start of the season in that series.  Tough to get a good grip on the ball in those conditions.
