This afternoon, the Tigers and Braves were scoreess for the first four innings. Unfortunately, the Braves scored five runs in the last five innings, while the Tigers scored only two runs.
In the top of the fifth, Brett Wisely singled, went to second base on a single by Jose Azocar, and scored on a throwing error by Max Anderson. Although Mr. Anderson got the runner at second base, he made a bad throw to first base in an attempt to get a doube play. The batter, Jim Jarvis, was safe at first on the bad throw, and Mr. Wisely scored.
In the top of the sixth, Tristan English as safe on a fielding error by Max Anderson, and DShawn Keirsey Jr. followed with a home run.
In the top of the seventh, Jose Azocar singed, went to second on a fly out, and scored on a single by Cal Conley.
In the bottom of the seventh, Brett Callahan hit a solo home run.
Kevin Kilpatrick Jr. led off the top of the ninth with a single, went to second base on a ground out, and scored on a single by Cal Conley.
Tomas Nido led off the bottom of the ninth with a home run.
Framber Valdez was the starter for the Tigers. He pitched three scoreless innings, giving up two hits and no walks. He struck out three.
Casey Mize followed Mr. Valdez to the mound. He gave up three runs on three hits, including a two-run homer. Only one of the three runs which scored while he ws pitching was earned. The other two came as a result of errors by Max Anderson at second base. Mr. Mize struck out two.
Beau Briske gave up one run on one hit in 1/3 of an inning.
Moises Rodriguez gave up one hit in the seventh. That hit allowed an inherited runner to score from second base.
25-year-old lefty Drew Sommers gave up one walk but no runs and no hits in the eighth. He struck out two.
Ricky Vanasco gave up one run on two hits in the ninth. He struck out one.
Tomorrow, the Tigers will send Ty Madden to the mound as they host the team from the Dominican Republic. It is the first of three games against teams from the World Baseball Classic.
