Interesting.  On one hand, I think he'd be productive.  On the other hand, can he not play the field anymore?  We don't really have room for another DH type.

He's played more games in left than at DH each of the past two seasons. His defensive WAR, according to ESPN, last year was -0.9, which is the same rating and Ryan Braun, Ben Revere, Steve Pearce and Ian Desmond. Justin Upton was a -0.6. Mikie Mahtook, in his 19 games in left, was a -1.3. Mahtook was also a -1.3 in center.

By range factor, Dickerson was 2.22, Upton a 2.29 (best among qualified left fielders) and Mahtook 2.3.

It seems like he'd be OK in the field.

What are the odds we actually get him? I assume they will be able to work out a trade so we won't get him?

Dickerson was DFA'd on Feb. 17 and the Rays have to trade him by this Saturday or he goes on waivers.
I predict the Rays will still trade him by this Saturday but if he's not traded and goes on waivers Al Avila would be dumb to pass on him.  Dickerson is "only" making $5.95 million and would be under team control for 2 more years.  It's a no brainer.

Heck, the Tigers should make a trade offer for him.  Offer something like Jacoby Jones and Buck Farmer for him.  It's not as if the Rays are in a strong bargaining position.

We'll see what happens by Saturday.
