Hello!

I'm new to Detroit and am interested commuting to work in Dearborn from Ferndale and wanted to see if anyone else commutes that route by bike and if there are any safe routes anyone would suggest.

Thanks!

It depends on what part of Dearborn you're going to, but Oakman Boulevard or W. Outer Drive are both nice routes.

Thanks Todd. The place I work is right on the border of dearborn and detroit towards the northeast section of dearborn. Oakman would be the perfect connecting route after taking woodward down. Do you ride that area often?

I ride Oakman a handful of times each year -- including tomorrow as part of the Tour de Troit metric route.  I usually get to it via Hamilton, but its more direct taking the streets just east of Livernois, including Warrington, Fairfield, Belden and Dexter. Sometimes I get to it via Meyers, but it's not as pretty of a route.

Meyers looks the most direct for me, but oakman looks more enjoyable. Would you avoid taking livernois then? Also would you consider it to be a safe bike commute?

Livernois in Detroit can be okay. It depends on the amount of traffic and how many people are parked on the street. When there's few cars parked, the parking lanes become a great place to ride. Of course Ferndale's made Livernois into a great place to ride.

Hi,

I know this thread is a bit old but I live in Royal Oak and work in Dearborn and may be interested in commuting by bike on occasion when the weather warms up. I havent tried the commute by bike yet but let me know if you want a commuting partner and maybe we can work something out. Email is jbu...@yahoo.com.

Thanks.
