triggered by a request from the University of Hamburg, which
is Hera-B's landlord in building 61, 62 and 66, I made some
tests with the power saving mode of the desktop PC. In the
power saving mode the monitor and computer are in the lowest
power consuming state above switched off. That saves up to
90% power comsumption, which is good, at least (building 3) for
your ecological conscience and for the electricity bill of the
university of Hamburg.
I tested it on Imma's Linux desktop PC. It needs 4s to wake up
and it also works by network. For Windows NT it is also ok.
If you want to set up the power saving mode, you have to configure
the bios of your PC:
- While reboot press "delete" to enter the bios menu.
- Enter the menu item "power management".
- The entry "power management" must be set to "user defined".
- Below the group header "PM Timers" the entry
"Suspend mode" must be changed from "disabled" to the delay
you want before the power saving mode is switched on, e.g
1 hour.
- Below the group header "Power up control" the entry
"wake on lan" must be enabled.
- Press escape.
- Enter the menu item "save & exit", answer the question with
y(es).
Let me know if you need help, not all bios menus are the same.
Best regards,
Birgit
