Subject: Physics Coordination
I herewith inform you about my decision to resign from the position of
physics coordinator of the HERA-B collaboration.
It is well known that the experiment urgently needs a day to day
coordination of data reconstruction and analysis activities. My own role - as
agreed upon two years ago - explicitly excludes such duties because of
commitments at my home institute in Berlin and because of private boundary
conditions, both of which make any long-term visit to DESY unrealistic.
Since it has proven extremely problematic to find a deputy who can
be fully devoted to the actual data taking and analysis, the best
solution for the experiment as a whole is to make room for a new physics
coordinator who takes over the complete range of responsibilities in
a full time fashion.
I shall continue to support the experiment with all my resources,
and I am also willing to continue the editing of the report on the
future of HERA-B if supported by the collaboration.
