Dear Colleagues,

conference time and holiday time is coming and I would like
to direct your attention to an easy and secure way to login
to Desy from anywhere in the world where you find a computer
with a web browser and an internet connection.

It works with
Netscape >= vers.4.06
Internet Explorer >= vers.4
and almost any popular operating system.

Just type in the url-line http://bastion.desy.de
You get a page where you can choose between 3 window (small,
large, lite) types. Click on the preferred on. That starts a
java applet and you have for while nothing to do than wait. After
some minutes (if you use an old computer or a slow modem) you get
a window where you can login to a computer called bastion with
your afs-id. Here you already enter the secure side because your
password is crypted transferred. From here you can login to your
favourite machine inside Desy using ssh (secure shell),
e.g. ssh hb-sun03.

A few weeks ago I made a realistic test. I sent some mails using
pine on hb-sun01 from an internet cafe in a small village in Greece
and it worked fine.
