All,
I was bored and mucking about tonight and started a Minecraft server
int he Amazon cloud. It's currently up and running at
minecraft.nowikihere.net (50.16.9.240), and you're all welcome to
join. At this time it has the bulk of the Bukkit mods that Puppytime
listed off today running. All seems to be running smoothly, although
there is definatley room for some improvement, and some commands and
such have changed their behavior a bit since Hey0.
I will be making the former OP's OP's on this server and I will
instate the whitelist, although the basic anti-greif tools are
currently running.
The map that was generated here is awesome. Don't get too attached, it
might not last.
Misc ramblings:
There was some shooting of the shit between Pixel, Goch, and myself as
I was working on this. They seemed to be behind the idea of making
this our new server. I would be totally OK with rebranding everything
as the Dtoid server, I didn't start it to play god or anything. I
would gladly re-instate all former OP's/Admins to have the same rights
as before. Id' probably give some others, such as Pup, access to the
console so that we could have a more active admin team.
I'd be ok with this is everyone else was down, but there's one small
problem: I don't have the $60-$70/mo to blow on hosting. The price
isn't bad considering this is hosted totally in the cloud, and since
this IS the cloud it's easily scalable. Regardless, someone,
somewhere, would have to pitch. I'm sure not all of you would be
willing to pay a few bucks a month for it, but I have had some
offers.
The other issue that come up is some might be uncomfortable with the
fact that I control the "physical server" itself. I have the ability
to turn it off and blow it away. I'd have no reason to do so should I
be able to keep paying the bills, but I see that some people might
have a problem with it.
Thoughts and opinions welcome.
