I have some custom "house made" ringtones for some of my contacts. Helpful to ignore phone while driving unless I hear one of these tones. I assign them to contacts and then somehow some form of pixie majik / unknown event occurs and the contact reverts back to the default ringtone.
* Conflict that occurs with ActiveSync integration (Outlook / Exchange). I sync mail, calendar and contacts to native apps through ActiveSync and perhaps that causes things to get bonky. The thing is though: my phone syncs constantly for mail and I assume it syncs for contacts and calendar at the same time. The "correct" ringtone seems to typically last a couple of days before reverting to default (but I might be wrong on that).
Also been having this problem. Iphone 6S plus, iOS 9.3.1. Custom ringtone and photos revert to default. Do you have an apple watch ? It seems to happen when the bluetooth connection to the watch breaks and re-connects., especially when watch is taken out of bluetooth range then re-connected. Also, I discovered that the only way to get custom ringtones and photos to stay is to make changes while phone is in airplane mode! Bluetooth, wifi, on or off no difference. Change a second contact and the first contact reverts back to default! Customs stay for a while then revert. Very frustrating. Apple store and tech support useless, "defaulting" to "Do full reset and restore".
