Dear Suneesh,

Two year old Ayesha has been complaining of stomach ache for the past few weeks.

Apart from prescribing medicines, the doctor at Save the Children's Mobile Health Clinic has suggested her parents to keep their surroundings clean.

Like Ayesha, millions of children in our country are living amidst unhygienic surroundings. This makes them susceptible to illnesses like diarrhoea and pneumonia.

Community Health Volunteers (Health workers) have an important role to play in such situations. They provide instant treatment for such illnesses, and also educate people about the importance of keeping their surroundings clean.

However, there is a severe shortage of 26 lakh trained health workers in our country which can be reduced if the Government increases budget allocation on healthcare to 5 % of GDP.

Thanks to people like you, our call for Government to increase spending on healthcare is becoming louder with every passing moment.

You will be happy to know that more than 120,000 people have joined us in this movement. But we must keep the momentum going.

I urge you to write to five of your friends and ask them to join the campiagn.

Thanks,

Thomas Chandy,
Save the Children
