Expression of type "image"

Thanks for the quick reply on the version string request!

How about something more involved now: would it be possible to use expressions of type "image" with the API? Specifically I would like to add SVG with data-urls as images attached to points (rather than just text labels, so effectively an image label on a point).

I tried adding an image expression with setExpression(), but was not successful, and a graph template containing images does not include the image expressions in getState(), but it would be great if these would work like any other expressions.

This has been an outstanding issue for several API versions now. There's no principled reason we don't allow you to create note, folder, or image expressions. It just doesn't come up as a request very often, and we haven't needed it internally, so it's never risen to a level of importance where it's actually hit somebody's TODO list. It's something we'd like to support, but I don't have a good sense of when it's going to happen. At least once a year we think we're going to do it, but maybe this is the year.

On a separate note, I'm not sure whether or not we'd end up supporting SVG right away (at least not well). Right now you can upload an SVG file through the UI, but it ends up rasterized on the canvas. Just another wrinkle, but noted in your request.
