Hi all,

Last Thursday, October 2nd, our website experienced over an hour of downtime beginning at approximately 4:30pm ET. Unlike previous incidents, our backup infrastructure for our hosted API was also impacted, and was unavailable for most users for approximately 30 minutes (up to 47 minutes for some users, depending on location). In the 8 years that we’ve been recording availability for our API, this was the first instance of measurable downtime. We know many of you rely on our API for your products and integrations, and we’re deeply sorry for the interruption.

Our team has identified and addressed the root cause – a faulty command that took down both our primary and backup stacks – and has updated our infrastructure and practices to ensure that this category of mistake can’t happen again. We’re also taking steps to make sure you have better visibility into the status of our systems moving forward. One of those steps is building a more detailed public status page, so you’ll be able to subscribe to real-time information and historical uptime details directly.

We’ll share more updates as we roll that out. In the meantime, if you have any questions about how the outage might have affected your application, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at partne...@desmos.com.

Thank you for your patience and for being part of our community. We really appreciate your trust as we work to make our systems more reliable and transparent.

Warmly,
The Desmos Studio Team
