FEBRUARY MEETING
This month, Roger Sammel from Sammel Sign Company (www.sammelsign.com)
will give a presentation on the design and mechanics of creating
signs. There will be materials, exhibits and samples to look at and
ask questions. There will also be an opportunity to view various
equipment used in the sign production process and possibly a
demonstration as well. This includes a new CNC router, which just
arrived Friday.
Chairs may be limited. If you have a folding chair or two to bring,
please do so.
UPCOMING EVENTS
Events and presentations are already lined up for the next few months!
Here's what's coming:
March 27: Training/Sharing Session (Bill Germer, HMC Advertising)
Do you have questions, or maybe answers, to those nagging design
questions? Come and learn something new, and probably share something
as well. We'll start with Print and Prepress, but the conversation may
vary. Design theories and print production will no doubt be discussed.
Bill Germer will facilitate this openly formatted session. There will
be a computer with projector to demonstrate so all can see. We will be
studying (but are not limited to) specifics in InDesign, Quark,
Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat. The session will take place at
HMC Advertising, 1250 Waterbury Road (Rt. 100 South), Stowe, VT 05672.
April 24: Modern Web Development (Michael Niggel, Paul Kaza
Associates)
Michael Niggel will lead discussion of effectively using HTML and CSS
on today's websites. The discussion may also cross into behavioral
scripting (Web 2.0). Focus will be on the practical application of
"best practice" web design.
May 29: Color Management (Julie Ogletree, Sappi Fine Paper)
This presentation highlights Sappi's latest publication: "The Standard
II." The presentation starts with a segment about Color Theory
(compression), then the focus shifts to the 3 sections in the book:
Four Color Plus (techniques to augment 4-color process), Apples to
Apples (color calibration), and Expanded Vision (techniques to expand
the color gamut).
JANUARY RECAP
Dan Craven from Stinehour Press (http://www.stinehourpress.com/) spoke
in depth about the book printing process. The presentation was
thorough and Dan provided many samples of various stages in the
process. Turnout
was strong.
